Counselling As Unique as You Are:
My counselling style is focused on you: what works best for you and how you want to approach your challenges. This is called a “client centered” approach. You may just want a place to vent. Or you may be ready to make lasting change.
While my expertise is transformation, you are the expert on yourself. So that means, although I have the array of the most effective tools, it is always you that leads the way and chooses which tools you like best. Together we create solutions in bite sized pieces for the future that you envision. Throughout, I seek to demystify the therapy process, and help bring you from surviving to thriving. It's very exciting when you make it to your goal!
In addition, the core of my counselling approach will always include deep respect and warmth in an environment of safety and non-judgement.
First Visit?
If you have never had a counselling session previously, you may feel a bit nervous. Here is what it would look like: At the first session, we will explore what is happening in your life that you are unhappy with. I will listen to you, ask questions and take notes about your challenges and your symptoms. We will explore what you want your life to be like. Your goals are the biggest factor determining how short or long term treatment will be. For some people therapy is as short as one, a few or several sessions, for others counselling spans over many months or years. It may be regular, or sporadic. You choose the duration and interval between sessions in alignment with what you want to achieve.
Throughout the counselling process I will encourage you to ask questions, correct me if I am wrong or if I did not fully understand. If a technique I suggest doesn't resonate with you, garbage it. Your feelings are your guidance system and it tells me what direction to move to next. We will find what works best for you.
Growth happens when you step outside of your comfort zone. Booking an appointment for the first time with a counsellor can be a little nerve wracking. I'll do my best to help you feel at ease if you are feeling fearful.
